BREAKING: Leopard Running on a PC!
We interrupt this vacation to bring you breaking news about Leopard running on a PC. Apparently, it can be done in three easy steps. Of course, not everything works the way it does on a Mac, but this is potentially HUGE! The hack comes from dailyapps.net. The instructions are posted, but not links to the files that make it work. There’s a little bit of fear of Apple lawyers coming down hard on them.
It’d be nice if Apple created a version of OSX to run on PC’s, but it would be even nicer if everyone would just do it Steve’s way and switch already. We don’t want you to miss out on the hardware!
UPDATE: Why does Techmeme ignore GeekBrief.TV?

I hate to say it. Maybe Apple should make a PC version, but charge heavily for it.
Amazing. That was fast.
Mh… I’m not so sure if Apple should. Then they would have to provide driver support and everything… and from Windows we see how troublesome that can be. This way people can see how nice OSX is, but they have some problems, which they may attribute to having hacked it. Next time they buy a computer they might get a Mac then.
I hope they never do. As a long time (former) Windows only user, one of the biggest reason Macs are my choice now it that Apple controls the hardware and software. I can’t begin to tell you how frustrating it is for a small business owner to be ping-ponged back and forth between the software vendor and the hardware vendor. Now I have one phone number to call or one store to go back to if I have a problem and it gets fixed. That is priceless when it comes to my sanity and time. Funny thing though, I never have to call anyone or take my computers into the store for repair anymore. In my opinion, if Apple allows their operating system on other hardware, they will have to spend so much more money on tech support it wouldn’t be worth it. Also, can you imagine how long you would have to wait on hold to get a question answered? The Apple system works great and I don’ mind at all paying more for their hardware. I have about 5 Macs on my network out of about 20 computers and they are by far the fastest and most reliable. I spent so much more money on my network/repair guy before. I will be needing him a lot less as I replace my computers with Macs and that will save money in the long run.
It’s not just windows I hate, but also the hardware (non-apple) it runs on.
Hm… Dave? You do know that Macs are made out of about 99% PC hardware? The sort of stuff that is inside of Windows boxes? Macs are just PCs in a fancy dress and something that says to OSX “I’m a Mac, you can install yourself on me”. Ok, the hardware isn’t that bad, and some care was taken that it works well, but that’s it. I don’t mind, I like them, but they are not everything.
Btw. something curious… leading the Maxwell benchmark charts are octocore Xeon Windows PCs with 4-16 GB memory, the octocore Mac Pros with 3 (instead of 2.66) GHz and 9-16 GB RAM can’t keep up, eventhough they should be pretty much identical, and all run Windows. Weird.
I was thinking of like Apple certified hardware, to reduce drivers and stuff. You build a Mac, you can only use this type of thing. To tell you the truth, I would be happy if Apple came out with a “Mac”. A small case computer, that you can change the video card, so the windows gamers can get rid of there boxes and have a Mac, smaller and cheaper than the Mac Pro
Are we getting a brief today? I hope so!!!!
Cali your enthusiasm is admirable but it’s misplaced. I like flexible systems and upgrading is not always an option with apples. If I used a mac pro then perhaps I could but I don’t want to spend multiple thousand dollars for a xeon box. I can do it all with what I have and the issues you all scream about are easily mitigated with alittle knowledge.
I was running Leopard on my PC until my motherboard took a nose dive but I will have it up and running soon. When it was running it ran great so much so that my Core 2 Quad 2.4 ran pretty close to a Mac Pro for half the price. I would buy a Mac in a heart beat if they offered something that was upgradeable like the Mac Pro but running on Core 2 chips for half the price.
I love your show Cali really missed you last week.
