netflix stream sure is tempting, but I’m thinking of jumping on blockbuster now. I canceled netflix quite some time ago, but the more rentals out of blockbuster seems like a good deal. That and I want to milk it while it lasts… because I don’t see it lasting forever :(

Hi Cali, What do you think about the whole “iPhone” thing?

If I as a company don’t pursue my trademark for a number of years, it expires. So why should anything else apply for Cisco. I don’t know if the extended or re-applied, but simply putting out a product with an expired trademark doesn’t renew it.

I’m not a laywer though, so let them bite their tails. It’ll be fun to watch.

For the Gefen… Reminded me of something I saw on Markertek a sweet “any ole junk” to HDMI converter in the shape of a Mac mini.

I’ve been with Netflix for about a year-and-a-half and have been very pleased. I’m not interested in Blockbuster’s plan for two reasons: (1) most of the movies in the store aren’t anything I’d be interested in, and (2) they’re always trying to sell me something whenever I rent in person. Very annoying.

Although I already had Netflix, I tried Blockbuster-by-mail when it first began, and was very disappointed in their selection. It was incredibly difficult to even find three DVDs for the free trial! Even worse, when I cancelled the service (after sending back the final disc) they wanted to charge me for another month because they hadn’t received the disc back yet. The closest Blockbuster is 20 minutes away, so the swap holds no appeal.

I’ve been with Netflix for a few years now, and I’ve actually exhausted all of the possibilities on there. My queue currently has five titles in it and I can’t find anything else I want to watch.

I mean, here’s the synopsis of one of the newest releases available:

“Marc has worn a mustache all his adult life. One day on a whim, he decides to shave it off. Certain his wife will comment on the drastic change in his appearance, Marc is baffled when neither she nor friends notice at all. Even more disturbing is that once he calls attention to it, everyone insists he’s never had a mustache.”

When the plots get down to facial hair intrigue, we’re kind of scraping the bottom of the barrel.

Nevertheless, I’m interested in the downloadables on Netflix, but I couldn’t find them anywhere. Is the link up yet?

Right now I’m in the middle of the 14 day trial for Vongo. Yes, I know it’s all Starz/Encore properties, but the downloads have good video quality and I’ve been able to catch up with some oldies like Young Frankenstein, and a few newer films I never found on Netflix.

And with Downloads I don’t have to hold my breath and pray that the DVDs make it back to the hub. Far less nerve wracking.

Well enough bla bla for now.

What in the world was that film called? It sounds like the premise of an Ed Wood movie. Are you sure the moustache didn’t have magical powers or hold the key to a netherworld?

I don’t know, how can you pass up a movie about a mustache that was, then wasn’t, then might never have been? :)

  8. Comment by R Pyle on January 17, 2007 11:43 pm

    The film was called….

    wait for it….

    “La Moustache”

And no, it wasn’t Ed Wood (no Bela Lugosi or buffalo)…there was no journey to cast the moustache into a volcano (one moustache to rule them all)…the moustache didn’t have to maintain 50 mph or the sideburns would explode…and it wasn’t about a herd of tap-dancing moustaches at the South Pole.

Wait! Nobody read that previous paragraph…I have some treatments to write!

  9. Pingback by Davis Freeberg’s Digital Connection - Gefen Introduces USB Support For New PVRs on January 18, 2007 11:17 am

[...] I was watching GeekBrief TV last night and saw that admidst the hubbub of all the CES news last week, I missed an announcement by Gefen that they’ve decided to throw their own hat into the DVR ring and will be releasing two new PVRs next month that should make it easier for consumers to archive and move their content around the digital home. On both their standard definition PVR and their high definition box, they plan on building support for a feature that allows you to export your shows via a USB connection to external hard drives and other portable devices.
