Testing TVersity right now using my XP machine thanks for the mention I will hopefully see you soon. I have another Wii oriented ap that you just might be interested in, only works on Windows also. Coming soon!

I’m a little concerned about the widespread adoption of Ubuntu. My issue with Ubuntu is its absolute lack of default security protection: no firewall, no Exec-Shield, no FORTIFY_SOURCE, no SELinux (as far as I’ve been able to determine).

Ubuntu would be one of the most easily compromised Linux distributions as a result. I’m concerned about a public backlash, against Linux in general, if Ubuntu machines start getting exploited. It’s one of the reasons I recommend other distributions.

Yes, Ubuntu is an easy to use distribution, but do we need another Windows-like security sieve?

I started looking at Ubuntu after this podcast since you mentioned that it is available as a live-CD distribution. I couldn’t find anything about it… I did dl a Knoppix .iso to try it out since that was the closest I could find. I don’t want to go through the hassle of a hard drive install right now and would like to find a way for my father to check his email and go online on one of their computers w/o compromising the windows system (again). A bootable distribution would work nicely since it should isolate the system from the viruses he seems to always open in his emails (telling him not to do that doesn’t seem to help). Besides, now that I seem some movement on the XBMC port to Linux front (see their forum), I may want to know a little more about setting up a simple Linux system.
If there is an Ubuntu Live CD, where is it? And is it better/worse than Knoppix?

@ddisco: the installation cd is a live cd. it gives you the option of installing or running ubuntu.

How timely! I just noticed one of those Trump Steaks ads at a Sharper Image in a nearby mid-scale-wanting-to-be-upscale mall. I wasn’t thinking so much that The Sharper Image had jumped the shark, but that The Donald had. How cheesy is that pose anyway?
