It’s just where we test new themes and play around with code. It was loading from that site because we keep some pictures there.

I think the small feeds are huge for briefs #0227 and #0226.
The small feed is 68.7 MB and the Medium feed is 41.7MB.
Shouldn’t they be the other way around?
The “stream this episode” is way to huge to stream on my network now when it didn’t used to be.

Oh…and I switched the “Stream” link to the Medium version, which does stream. Thanks for letting me know!

Hey, Cali. Prayin’ for your hands. I could tell you were either bummed about something, or weren’t feeling well, because your words per second were down this podcast. ;)

  7. Comment by Bryce on September 10, 2007 5:27 pm

Any idea when itunes is going to feature the new ringtone thing?

  8. Comment by jack on September 10, 2007 5:28 pm

Are sure you shouldn’t get a second opinion? It’s not just hands - you look bloated, like you were about to go into anaphylactic shock… This things are serious. Just saying..

  9. Comment by Cali on September 10, 2007 5:33 pm

@Jack: I know my lips look like I’ve had collagen injections, but does my face look swollen too? I’m a mess…and this was a second opinion…

  10. Comment by Brutis on September 10, 2007 5:33 pm

    Hey Cali
Sorry to hear about your hands
I saw this article you might want ot read about called Allergic to computing?
    http://findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_m1200/is_17_158/ai_67832338
it seems some plastics used in some computer monitors emit a chemical that can cause allergic reactions.

And I also found a cool article about a double-sided touchscreen or Transparent Touchscreen by MS that looks really cool
    http://www.pcpro.co.uk/news/123480/microsoft-develops-double-sided-touchscreen.html#cooliris
perhaps you could do a story about it

  11. Comment by Jonathan on September 10, 2007 5:46 pm

Hey Cali, really sorry you are having a reaction, looks miserable and I’m sure you are feeling pretty low too (tho I’m sure Neal is taking good care of you). Just want to say I wish you a good and speedy recovery and don’t worry, your face looked a little like you had a cold but it is still as beautiful as always :)

  12. Comment by Brandon on September 10, 2007 6:12 pm

The small is 720 wide - probably why it’s large.

  13. Comment by Eldac on September 10, 2007 6:24 pm

    Get well soon!

  14. Comment by Linh on September 10, 2007 6:26 pm

Hope the hands feel better, that looks not very friendly to everyday activities.

As for ringles… ummm. nice thought on buying individual tracks in-store, but the point was to pick your own tracks. This seems like it would just create more shelve space.

How about drop all this DRM crap, make the songs affordable, and put up MP3 (I’d say iTS, but as much as I like it, I don’t like that locked in feeling, unless it’s iTS drm free) kiosks… and follow the starbucks mentality… put it in public places and sync it to their overhead music.

    Just don’t play elevator music.

  15. Comment by Thierry on September 10, 2007 6:48 pm

An allergy to plastic? I hope it’s not, that would be really bad… Get well soon!

Oh, and by the way, the word “Kumpel” is actually pronounced “k-oo-mple” ( /Kuˈmpəl/ ), not “k-uh-mple”. :)

  16. Comment by Keith Robinson on September 10, 2007 7:16 pm

OMG man the music companies so don’t get it.

    Get well soon Cali!

  17. Comment by Stephen on September 10, 2007 8:13 pm

    Wow Cali,
You looked seriously bummed out this episode. It was weird.

Hope you feel better. Hope the gloves work.

  18. Comment by R Pyle on September 10, 2007 8:25 pm

I’m sorry you’re not feeling well. When you described your hands during the live cast the other day I thought it just might be the little water bumps that occasionally pop up. But if you haven’t brought any new plastic devices in recently, how could it be plastics? The mind boggles.

I can see your lips are a little puffy and the tip of your nose as well. Hands, lips, nose…could it be a drinking cup? Or a straw?

Sorry to be so over-analytical. I’m still trying to figure out why Zsuaro put an eraser on the end of its touch pencil. Perhaps it’s for undo?

At any rate, I hope you feel better quickly.

  19. Comment by Omar G. on September 10, 2007 8:29 pm

The Small version wouldn’t sync to my iPod 5G after downloading in iTunes (this started with 226 and 227), so I went ahead and switched to Medium Blend and that seems to be working just fine.

    Hope you’re feeling better, Cali!

  20. Comment by Cali on September 10, 2007 8:32 pm

Thanks for all your well wishes, everyone!

@Omar: we’ll work on the encoding for the next show. Sorry you had to switch feeds!

  21. Comment by MrZ on September 10, 2007 8:34 pm

Hope you’re getting better! You seemed a little subdued this episode, and I realized that I missed your kookiness (?). I’m sure the skin rash was probably a reaction to a chemical you were exposed to and not plastic, (plastic allergies are very rare). Anyway, hope you feel better! OH! are you going to attend to Podcast Expo @ Ontario, California?

  22. Comment by daniel on September 10, 2007 9:02 pm

Cali, Hope you get to feeling better! Love teh show. here is a lolcat for you http://icanhascheezburger.com/2007/09/10/i-stay-home-k-mah-tummeh-hurt/

    I’m posting from my iPhone!!

Cali, I hope this doesn’t sound all Christian-sciency (heck, I’m a Buddhist!!) but I’m praying for your hands. I can’t believe what a trooper you are for recording an episode when you clearly don’t feel well. Personally, I think you’re allergic to the recent lack of Splenda ad revenue.

Props to Neal too for the almost-certain mitten-doting that he’s almost certain to have done/been doing.

    Cali

Sorry to hear about your allergy problems. I too have some serious plastic allergies after working in a model shop. I found many of the new plastics are much worse than the one’s from just a few years ago. I bought a Ipod Nano and could not hold on to it without a serious reaction. Formaldehyde is one of my primary problem. Many plastics, paper, and particle board wood products out gas formaldehyde. Rather than leave a really long comment…Send me an email and I’ll tell you what I know. Who knows I may be able to help. I’ve been dealing with this for seven years. I plan to do a website once I find the time. Take care.

I could always submit to the mp3-cast, but than I cant see your T-shirts :-)

    Ringles !!!

We’ve had the CD single in the UK for years in fact it’s now dying out so why add a “ringtone” and try and market it as something new… Arghhhhhh

Also Cali, the mic you’ve got pinned on you this show, very subtle .. What is it please ?

The last couple of episodes of GB on the iPod format feed have not been compatible with the 5G iPod.

I suspect that the Medium format videos have been uploaded to the iPod feed by accident.

Just wanted to point it out.

Once you go Mac, you never go back.

Hey Cali sorry to hear about your hands, I know that were I work we have antibacterial creams and soap that I cannot use because they cause me to sores break out all over my hands that I have to bring in my own regular soap to wash with. Still considering that a computer keyboard is the dirtiest location in a house what do you use to clean your keyboards with?
If you have developed an allergy to the plastics used in apples keyboards and monitors you might be able to wright off the purchase of computer equipment that is more metal than plastic.

  39. Comment by beagle on September 11, 2007 4:41 pm

Get well soon Cali - well done for getting through the show, what a trooper you are.

However, the podshow is all very well n all but make sure you get some rest! We’d understand :)

  40. Comment by Lou on September 11, 2007 9:15 pm

Something similar happened to my wife last year. She was having horrible allergic reactions on her hands and face to something that we couldn’t pinpoint, and was miserable for weeks. At one point, it got so she ate nothing for a couple days, and the one thing that kept her going was a particular brand of chai (sp?) tea. Unfortunately, it turned out that something in the tea is what she was allergic to. She stopped drinking it, and was almost completely better in about a day.

Hope you figure it out soon….

  41. Comment by Bryan on September 12, 2007 7:17 am

Sorry about your apparent allergic reaction and I hope you get relief soon.

Regarding the feed. I am subscribed to the iPod feed via iTunes and #227 is not an iPod format. The file I got from the feed is actually a 720×400 video and iTunes tells me it can’t be put on my iPod.

This happened a week or two ago also.

I love the show, keep it up!

  42. Comment by Rob on September 12, 2007 11:18 am

The record companies are not doing their math. Ringles even if 10% of people who actually buy cds now bought a ringles cd or two, they would still make almost nothing. I bet less than 1% will buy these things because of the price. Also, how often do you need to update your ring tone at that price.
