At GBTV, we like experimenting and living on the cutting edge of what technology is ready to allow. Over the past few weeks, I’ve interviewed about 20 people in Podcasting on Skype. We believe a video interview on Skype will soon look as good as a Satellite up-link on a network.

On this episode, I talk to Paul Colligan from PremiumCast.com about what they’re doing to exploit the potential of RSS. This is one of the best interviews in the experiment. We’ll release the rest of the interviews on another feed that we’ll announce in a few days.

At the end, around six minutes, my computer tells me I’m running on reserve battery. Pay attention to how distracted I start to get. It’s hilarious!

What does everyone think of the interview? I think the guy was more interested in selling podcasts to his viewers/listeners. The great thing about podcasts is it's very grass-roots. People seem to do them because they're passionate about a certain subject or podcast about their hobby. This guy sounds like he wants to sell me episodes. You can check the webserver logs if you want to give your sponsors metrics. If you don't want people to distribute your podcast to their friends then don't publish it under Creative Commons. OTOH I'd be happy to buy a domain name, t shirts, click-through, donate and/or otherwise give any credit to GBTV when purchasing a product with a promo code on Amazon or wherever. Heck, GBTV sponsors would probably be happy to know that I go to the site several times a day to see if a new podcast is up (admit it - you do, too.) GBTV sponsored ad's aren't obtrusive and even the episodes that were sponsored by HP were good because our hostess appeared to give objective information and opinions rather than be an extension of HP's marketing department. I think other podcasters are well-aware of this as well because they don't want to lose credibility with their regular viewers/fans for acting as shills for their sponsors. Disclaimer: I've never heard the interviewee's podcast - he might be a great guy. He just seemed to want to take podcasting somewhere I don't think it belongs. Cali - How big is your UPS to have your extra monitor and high-speed internet plugged into it? The only thing I plug in my UPS is my computer and LCD monitor so that I can shut down properly and quickly. My internet router/modem is in the non-powered side of the UPS.
