Jesus Diaz at Gizmodo tied the design of the new iMac to a 1970s PALcolor 614 television from Telefunken.

Groovy, Baby! But, then we started thinking…what else does that Telefunken TV remind us of?

Oh Yeah! I thought we were inspired by something.

in the museum of natural science in NYC they have a TON of examples like this. similarities between 1960’s and 70’s design is a lot more prevalent than people think. great find though!

    Hi Cali/Neal

You asked about shooting in the sun. One good tool is from http://www.litepanels.com with their Miniplus system. Very light weight and very effective when shooting within a few feet from the subject (that would you) I’ve got one and it works very well.

Also, anything you can do to decrease the contrast between yourself and the background. Look for dark backgrounds or backgrounds that are in the shade.

Speaking of shade - that can be your best friend, if you have something like the Litepanels to fill in the face a bit. Also shooting in the shade but next too a large open window so that you get lots of indirect light you. Even inside there’s lots of light coming in thru doors, windows and other openings.

If you have to shoot outside in the direct light - try to avoid mid day if possible and use the morning and afternoon light with a bounce card or reflector on the opposite side of which ever way the light is coming in to fill in the shadow side.

If you have the resources, a four by four scrim panel supported by a C-stand with a couple of sandbags to keep it from going away can make a huge difference. It knocks down the intensity of the light hitting the subject without creating a total shade. I’ve even used very dark window screen stapled up to create a slightly shaded area.

This site is a decent place to start looking for scrims too http://www.fjwestcott.com/

You can also use that screen hung like a shower curtain behind you to make the background a little darker. You do have a more limited shot since you usually can’t shot as wide as you might normally . . . but usually you can adapt the shot to fit the background. Just make sure that the depth of field in narrow enough to put the scrim slightly out of focus.

Also Kennedy’s ENG, Inc right here in the Dallas area can hook you up with lots of gear that will help. Here’s their URL http://www.kennedyseng.com/

I hope those tips help. Contact me via my email if you need more.

    Redecorating with Shower Curtain Hooks…

Shower curtains are a quick and inexpensive way to change the look of your bathroom. For much less than $100, you can go from plain to exceptional. An often overlooked facet of bathroom decorating is the shower curtain hook….
